Liberal speakers outnumbered conservatives at Indiana University, Bloomington last school year by a margin of 11-to-1.
A Campus Reform analysis reveals that Indiana University, Bloomington (IUB) hosted just four conservative speakers during the 2016-17 academic year.
Overall, IUB’s official calendar includes 117 events featuring speakers who either addressed controversial/political topics or are known for their political activity, about one-third of which could be categorized as left-of-center.
The events ranged from commencement ceremonies and conferences to special lectures and exhibits that focused on issues of culture and diversity. Many of the invited speakers were academic experts and authors who have written extensively on relevant academic and public policy topics.
Campus Reform researched the political affiliations of all 117 speakers, taking into consideration their public statements and opinions as well as organizational affiliations, and determined that 44 of the speakers who appeared on campus during the 2016-17 school year demonstrated a left-of-center political leaning.
The remaining 69 lecturers either delivered speeches on politically neutral topics or could not be effectively labeled as either “left” or “right” of center based on their past remarks.
Former FBI Director James Comey “deviated” from FBI and Justice Department procedures in handling the probe into Hillary Clinton, damaging the law enforcement agencies’ image of impartiality even though he wasn’t motivated by political bias, the department’s watchdog found in a highly anticipated report.
“While we did not find that these decisions were the result of political bias on Comey’s part, we nevertheless concluded that by departing so clearly and dramatically from FBI and department norms, the decisions negatively impacted the perception of the FBI and the department as fair administrators of justice,” Inspector General Michael Horowitz said in the report’s conclusions, which were obtained Thursday by Bloomberg News.
Horowitz’s report examined actions taken by top officials before the 2016 election, including the handling of the investigation into Clinton’s use of a private email server when she was secretary of state. The investigation expanded to touch on an array of politically sensitive decisions by officials including Comey and former Attorney General Loretta Lynch.
And when a House Office of Inspector General cybersecurity investigation found that Awan made “unauthorized access” to House servers, including the House Democratic Caucus’ shortly before the election, Wasserman Schultz became “frantic, not normal,” “making the rounds” to House officials in an attempt to kill the investigation, one House employee told The Daily Caller News Foundation.
Awan told people Wasserman Schultz chose the name for his daughter, Leza — a Jewish name — and that the Florida congresswoman’s daughter regularly rode a horse that Awan kept at a boarding facility, sources with knowledge of the relationship told TheDCNF.
Wasserman Schultz cornered House Chief Administrative Officer Phil Kiko and called him a “fucking Islamophobe,” saying “you will not so much as take away their parking spots,” the two House employees said Kiko told them.
This week’s Top 10 distorted headlines include references to sports strategies, games, “shenanigans” and a “quest.” There were also references to strong reactions of “heads exploding” and “boiling over.”
